An interactive session with Oriana Zill de Granados, CIR Productions Director, organised by Insite & CommA. She will be talking about her career as an investigative journalist and investigative journalism per se, then the floor will be opened for discussion/questions.

Oriana Zill de GranadosOriana Zill de Granados, CIR Productions Director: Zill de Granados, an investigative reporter and documentary filmmaker, oversees all of CIR's television productions. Her film, "Nuestra Familia, Our Family", about California's Latino prison gangs, aired nationally on PBS in 2006, as part of Latino Public Broadcasting's series, Voces. It won the prestigious Tom Renner Award from Investigative Reporters and Editors. In 2006, she co-produced "The Enemy Within" with Lowell Bergman, a documentary for PBS Frontline about the domestic War on Terror. She also has developed and acted as Senior Producer on investigative documentaries for Frontline/World, ABC News - Peter Jennings Reporting and CNN Presents.

Before joining CIR, Zill de Granados produced segments for the weekly PBS series, NOW with Bill Moyers, about terrorists from the United States and abroad purchasing U.S. guns, the tobacco industry's involvement in international cigarette smuggling, and the Israel/Palestinian war and the Israeli settlers of the West Bank. She was a producer and writer on the Frontline series "Drug Wars" which aired in October 2000 and received Peabody and Emmy awards. She has produced segments for ABC News Nightline; for Science Times, a National Geographic Channel program; and for The Travel Channel, among others.

SDM Comma Journalism Seminar

SDM and Comma are organising a Seminar on Journalism and the Media.  Amongst the speakers we will be having newspaper editors, various journalists, and radio/TV station managers and head of programmes, and many more.

This is a great opportunity for all those who plan to work in the media, or are simply interested in journalism and media, to come and listen to what the experts have to say.

Friday 9th to Sunday 11th November 2007

IC Media WeekendBored of lectures and too much theory? Feeling like it’s about time you get to know the people behind the faces you meet every day in class? Want to have fun while actually doing something useful?

CommA and InSite have teamed up for the first IC Media Weekend to be held at Alexandra Hotel from 9th-11th November. During the weekend, four different workshops will be taking place. Experts in the respective fields will help participants create print, video, radio and photography projects.

This complete hands-on learning process culminating in the creation of ready-for-use media products, will serve as a practical opportunity of making the right contacts with Malta’s leading media makers.

The indispensable team building activities and parties shall also be include to ensure that students get to know each other and have fun while working hard at their workshops.

The fee for the weekend, including accommodation full board is Lm23 and is Smart-Card refundable.  To apply, simply fill in this application form and submit it by Wednesday 31st October.
