Life is a struggle… or so we’ve all heard.

It would seem that as life progresses one cannot but look back into the past and think that “those where the days”.

So far, throughout the couple of decades in which I’ve been consuming food, oxygen, time, patience and (lots of) money, I see myself as somebody who’s gained a lot of life experience. I’ve been a part of modern history:

As exams were drawing uncomfortably close, I found myself on my bedroom floor with papers covering up what used to be my carpet.  As I began ‘punching’ away at what seemed like an endless tide of papers, stacked piles of white, untouched papers surrounded me. I suddenly realised that these were not mere piles of paper. These rectangular mounds were actually quite a small fortune in printed paper.

”Why? Why Malta?” was the usual response when I told to my Finnish friends the place I was going to stay the next five months of my life. I couldn't give a good answer even to myself. I had never been there, I had no idea how the people would look like or didn't even know what the capital city was called. I only knew that they were good at Eurovision Song Contest and they were hunting too many birds in the spring time. But the minute I got the approval letter from the University of Malta, I knew I had to do it.

Hunched shoulders and bent backs run rampant across campus. Physiologically our futures seem bleak to say the least. Outdated and uncomfortable chairs and tables are present in almost every class in our beloved university, and ironically, we have sat back for too long. Why must my fellow students and I be subjected to such inadequate classroom conditions? While the word Ergonomics is closely related to comfort, it also branches out to safety and efficiency, and in this case, ensures a student is relieved of any musculoskeletal stress.

With just three months left for exams, I can’t help but reflect on how fast time is flying. We live such a frantic life, that we rarely stop to savor it. We are becoming too anxious to rush through the calendar, as we anticipate feasts and events from months before.
