Students Fest 2007 Call for Crew

Students Fest, one of the biggest yearly events on campus, will be held at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall on campus on Saturday 31st March and Sunday 1st of April.  Such a large production requires a team dedicated to their field and focused on the task at hand.

This year, CommA is assisting KSU in coordinating the graphic and video elements of the show, and we want YOU to be part of the team.  Experience is not necessary, knowledge is optional - enthusiasm is key.

This is a list of all posts available.  If you or someone you know is interested in taking on a role, contact us as soon as possible on info@comma.org.mt.

SUMMARY

The team will do the bulk of the work on the two nights of the show, where 3 cameras will be filming the event and shown on the screens in the theatre.  The show will also be recorded for a future DVD to be released.

On The Night....  31st and 1st April - the entire Students Fest will be filmed live, recorded and shown on big screens. The video production crew will be responsible for all things video, including video playback, titling, cameras, and recording.

When It's Over... After the two nights of production, the recorded material is taken back to the edit suite to produce a polished, finished full-length DVD of the entire show, as well as a number of promotional videos which will be used to promote the DVD as well as Students Fest productions in future years.

Don't worry if it all sounds intimidating!  It really is quite straightforward once you get the hang of it.

ROLES

Director
This is the person sitting behind the screens, choosing the best shot and coordinating the camera crew.  On the night, the Director will be the one 'calling the shots' and asking the camera crew to move cameras according to how the show is progressing.  He/She also makes sure the pre-made videos show up on the screens at the right time.

Camera Persons (x3)

All the necessary equipment will be provided, you just need to have a decent eye for what is happening in front of you and move the camera appropriately.  Each Camera Person will be responsible for 1 camera (fixed or mobile), keeping camera in focus, adjusting camera for various shots and following instructions by the Director.

Video Features Operator
The features operator will play back video clips on the night.  The job entails knowing how to press play on computer software. :-)  He/She will also be overseeing the videotaping (recording) of the show (ie. pressing Record...).

Editor / Mastering Engineer
Pre-Production: works with video features operator and camera operators to prepare ‘postcard’ shots of the acts, which will be shown on production night.
Post-Production: Edits the live recordings for the production of a full-length DVD video and a number of promotional features.
